What Cookies Are

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device — computer, tablet, or mobile phone — when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide information about how the site is used.

Cookies are not programs. They cannot run code, carry viruses, or access your device beyond the information they are designed to store. They are simply data files that your browser stores and makes available to the website that placed them.

In addition to cookies, websites may use similar technologies such as local storage, session storage, and web beacons. This Notice covers all such technologies collectively under the term “cookies” unless the context requires otherwise.

This Cookie Notice should be read alongside the SAC Privacy Notice, which sets out the full legal framework governing how SAC collects and processes personal data, including data collected through cookies.

02

How SAC Uses Cookies

SAC uses cookies on sac.ng for three distinct purposes: to make the website function correctly, to understand how it is used, and to remember visitor preferences between visits. We use only the cookies necessary for these purposes.

SAC does not use cookies to:

  • Build profiles for advertising or remarketing purposes
  • Track visitors across third-party websites
  • Share behavioural data with social media platforms or advertising networks
  • Enable third-party advertising on sac.ng

Where cookies require consent under the NDPA 2023 — that is, where they are not strictly necessary for the website to function — SAC obtains consent through the cookie banner that appears on your first visit to sac.ng. You may change your consent choices at any time using the “Manage Preferences” option in the sidebar or cookie banner.

SAC is a licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisation (DPCO). The data practices described in this Notice reflect the standards we advise our clients to meet — applied to our own website and operations.

03

Types of Cookies Used

sac.ng uses the following categories of cookies. Each category is described below, together with its purpose, lawful basis, and typical retention period.

04

Third-Party Tools

sac.ng uses a limited number of third-party services that may set cookies or collect data about your visit. These are listed below together with their purpose and applicable privacy documentation. SAC has selected these services on the basis of their data minimisation practices and their ability to comply with NDPA and internationally recognised data protection standards.

Service Provider Purpose Privacy documentation
Website analytics Google Analytics (if enabled) Aggregated website usage analysis Google Privacy Policy
Website hosting Hosting provider (server infrastructure) Serving sac.ng pages and assets Available on request from privacy@sac.ng
Email delivery Email service provider Delivering resource downloads and communications Available on request from privacy@sac.ng
Web fonts Google Fonts Loading Playfair Display, Inter, IBM Plex Mono typefaces Google Privacy Policy

Where these services process personal data outside Nigeria, SAC takes the steps described in Section 13 of the SAC Privacy Notice to ensure appropriate transfer safeguards are in place.

SAC does not embed social media plugins, share buttons, or third-party advertising widgets on sac.ng. No third-party advertising or social media platform sets cookies through sac.ng.

Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You have several options for managing the cookies placed on your device by sac.ng. Your choices are set out below.

Cookie consent preferences on sac.ng

The most direct way to manage cookies on sac.ng is through the cookie banner that appears on your first visit, or the “Manage Preferences” option in the sidebar of this page. You can accept all optional cookies, reject all non-essential cookies, or enable specific categories only.

Your preferences are saved for 12 months. You may change them at any time by returning to this page and clicking the button below, or by clearing your browser’s cookies (which will reset your preferences).

All major browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings — blocking cookies, deleting existing cookies, or receiving a warning before cookies are placed. Note that disabling strictly necessary cookies will impair the functioning of sac.ng, including form submission and navigation.

Instructions for managing cookies in common browsers:

sac.ng respects the DNT (Do Not Track) browser signal where technically feasible. When your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, SAC configures analytics tools to minimise data collection accordingly.

Note that Do Not Track is not universally implemented across all websites and services. Enabling Do Not Track in your browser is an expression of your preference, but is not a guarantee that all third-party tools will honour it. Managing your preferences directly on sac.ng using the cookie consent tool above is the most reliable method of controlling cookie placement.

If you have accepted analytics cookies and wish to opt out of Google Analytics specifically, you may install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, which prevents Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits across all websites that use it.

Alternatively, rejecting analytics cookies in the SAC cookie preferences tool will prevent Google Analytics from being activated on sac.ng.

Clearing cookies resets your preferences. If you clear your browser cookies, your cookie consent preferences for sac.ng will be deleted and the cookie banner will appear again on your next visit.

06

Updates to This Notice

SAC reviews this Cookie Notice periodically and updates it where necessary — in particular when we add, remove, or change the cookies or third-party tools used on sac.ng, or when there are material changes to applicable law or NDPC guidance on cookies and tracking technologies.

When material changes are made, we update the “Last reviewed” date at the top of this page. Where changes affect cookies that require consent, we will reset consent preferences and request fresh consent from returning visitors through the cookie banner.

The current version of this Notice is available at sac.ng/cookie-notice. This Cookie Notice should be read alongside the SAC Privacy Notice, which governs the full scope of personal data processing by SAC.
